Some of these famous international dirt bike events may have escaped your knowledge, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. They do and they are absolutely fascinating! From the naivete of their birth and creation to the world class set ups they have become, these races attract amateur and professional athletes and teams who challenge them year in and year out making these off road motorcycle events worthy of the thousands of spectators that indulge in them first hand.
In the following pages I will take you on a journey that traces these motocross and enduro events back to their roots so we can discover how and why these prestigious events came about and why they are so influential to our ‘dirt bike world’. After all, chances are the high performance dirt bike you are riding right now is the result of a group of people who were trying to produce the best possible motorcycle to win one of these popular racing events… unless of course you ride a Honda CT110 which means you are a postie. Sorry but no event shaped those things :/
We read magazines about the pros that race in these dirt bike events – and what a thrill it must be for them to travel, experience and compete in them. But for the rest of us mere mortals and reality dwellers imagine if you will what it would be like to travel around the globe and experience these races as spectators..? I personally plan on doing exactly that in a few years although it’s a tad difficult when you’re living in the a#$e end of the world in New Zealand! And if you’ve been fortunate enough to witness or compete in any of the following events we would all love to hear about it, so please share your story with us by using the invitation form at the bottom of each page.
So, like I often say, grab yourself a coke, beer or cup of tea depending on your age and inclination, make yourself comfortable and read on…
