Ronnie Renner: The good life

Being a Christian, Ronnie Renner isn’t your average ‘bad ass’ freestyle motocrosser. He got into riding dirt bikes at age four thanks to his Dad who also raced motocross. He turned pro at seventeen (1997), racing the MX circuit, then discovered a passion for FMX – becoming a pro at that in 2000. He competed in a number of competitions collecting a stack of medals along the way, establishing himself as one of the best step-up competitors in the world and making himself known with his post-run break dance performances!

But perhaps the most impressive aspect of Ronnie’s riding ability is his trademark whip… and it aint no normal whip! As he launches off a jump he pulls his bike to one side and gets radically upside down before landing in a different direction to where he left the jump. He has mastered this technique like no other and demonstrated this freakish talent to the masses in 2008 when he fired himself 59 feet 2 inches high from a quarter pipe at the Santa Monica Pier setting a world record. Since then he has broken that record at over 63 feet.

Although Ronnie Renner – AKA Rendawg – competes in freestyle competitions around the world and gets paid to perform in shows by his biggest sponsor Red Bull, his true passion lies in free riding. And if you’ve ever seen footage of him in any of many films that shows him tearing it up in places like Ocotillo Wells and Glamis Dunes you’ll understand why. He shines in these conditions and his smooth riding style is an absolute pleasure to watch as he goes hard and goes big in natural terrain.

Proving that he is one of the best free riders in the world, he won the Red Bull Ride To The Hills competition – an event that focuses on style, air time and creativity in some of the best natural MX environments in the world. Talk about fun! No wonder he says that he’s not so keen on ramp jumping and that he gets bored of it.

Ronnie Renner is a family man now and is setting up the next stage of his colorful career in the form of a training facility coaching up and coming motocrossers and FMXers. And although he’s into his dirty thirties he’s relatively unbroken compared to most other freestylers, so don’t think you’ve seen the last of him yet…
